How to do Advanced Search in eBooks, Notes & Annotations?

Let's see how to do a search using the intelligent 'Advanced Search'.
The Advanced Search Feature on Tablet/Mobile

The advanced search icon is available at the top of your screen (3rd from the library icon), once you tap on it, you will see all the four search methods, Proximity value search, recent search arrow, and search areas.
The Advanced Search Feature on Web/PC

The advanced search icon is available at the top of your screen (1st in the library side panel icon), once you click on it, you will see all the four search methods, Proximity value search, recent search arrow, and Search Area.
Real-Time Search Only on EBC Reader

Search within EBC Reader, not only searches downloaded book results but all the books in your library. This enables you to instantly search every book, annotation or note, irrespective of whether you have downloaded it on your device. Thus allowing you instant access to your entire library, without limiting it to device space restrictions etc.
Search Within Your Notes

Every time you search, EBC Reader Advanced Search will also search those keywords within your notes. Making it easier to refer to past work or ideas that you may have put together and build on it in your research while making no extra effort to search for it. Thus saving you a lot of time and effort.
Search Within Your Annotations

Every time you search, EBC Reader Advanced Search will also search through all your highlights, underlines by pen or pencil, copy selection as well as bookmarks. Making it easier to refer to earlier highlights across your entire e-library, thus building on past research or ideas, thereby customising your search. Thus saving you a lot of time and effort.
Default Plural Search

EBC Reader will search for plurals of keywords entered by default in your search keywords. This allows you to save time by, not having to search for plural keywords for each alternative of your search, for example, a keyword, crime will also search for; crime, crimes. Similarly for man/men, woman/women, witness/witnesses etc.
GROUP RESULTS BY CHAPTER or BOOK
Group Results By Book
Group results by book, allows you to find results within the same book, limiting it to upto 1 result per chapter. Thus allowing you to understand all the places within a book, where the relevant result may be found.


Group Results By Chapter
Group results by chapter, allows you to find results within chapters of different books, arranged by the relevance of results. This allows you to find all the relevant results even at the specific places within the chapter, allowing your results to be much more detailed while navigating you instantly to the relevant result!


SEARCH METHODS
Search Approach: Proximity/Boolean Search - Search by ‘All Words’


Step 1: Type the keywords here, for example: "FIR is substantive evidence"
Step 2: Select 'All Words' as the search type.
Step 3: Select proximity as needed.
Step 4: Select the pre-defined search area, then hit 'Search'.
Search Results:Proximity/Boolean Search Method


Step 1: Search results for 'FIR is substantive evidence' will be displayed on your screen.
Step 2: You can sort your results as per Chapter/Book view.
Search Approach: By Phrase - Search by ‘Phrase’


Step 1: Type the 'Phrase' here like for example "De Novo" or "Euthanasia entails the use"
Step 2: Select 'Exact Phrase' as the search type.
Step 3: Select the pre-defined search area, then hit 'Search'.
Search Results: By Phrase


Step 1: Search results get listed for 'Euthanasia entails the use'.
Step 2: You can sort your results as per Chapter/Book view.
Search Approach: Any Words - Search by ‘Any Words’


Step 1: Type the search keywords here like: Kashmir Reorganisation Act.
Step 2: Select 'Any Words' as the search type.
Step 3: Select proximity as per your needs.
Step 4: Select the pre-defined search area, then hit 'Search'.
Search Results: Any Words


Step 1: Search results get listed for Kashmir Reorganisation Act.
Step 2: You can sort your results as per Chapter/Book view.
Search Approach: Wildcard - Search by ‘Wildcard’

Step 1: Type keywords with operators or modifiers such as- ? * ~.

Step 2: Select 'Wildcard' as the search type.
Step 3: Select the pre-defined search area, then hit 'Search'.

Step 2: You can sort your results as per Chapter/Book view.
SEARCH AREA
Search by Set - Search only in a Specific Set

Step 1: With EBC Reader Advanced Search, you can limit your search results to a single set of books, for example like C.K. Thakker "Code of Civil Procedure" in 6 volumes and search through only that set.
Step 2: Click on 'Done' to view results.

Step 1: Filter what you want to see in your search results "View" i.e. you can add or remove Books, Annotations, Notes results as required to focus on any one area.
Step 2: Click on 'Done' to view results.

Step 1: Thus you can choose to search within books, or bare-acts or both. Thus enables the reader to refine the search and the relevance of the results.
